Following the clash between HPG guerrillas and Turkish soldiers early on Thursday in Çukurca district of Hakkari, soldiers have reportedly started shooting in Yeni Mahalle and Emir Þaban neighborhoods. While three rockets have hit the houses of two persons, one of them member of IHD, many houses in the neighborhoods have also been raked through.
According to information by local sources, the clash broke out after the attack of guerrillas which targeted a military unit. While the second attack of guerrillas targeted District Gendarmerie Station, soldiers started to open random fire around at four sides of the district. Following the clashes, houses in the mentioned neighborhoods were targeted with rockets and bullets.
While fortunately no deaths or injuries have been reported in the neighborhoods, Hakkari governor Muammer Türker made a statement and claimed that four guerrillas had also lost their lives in the clashes. However, district residents remarked that nobody has been brought to hospital so far.
No reports of operation or military activity reported in the district where intense military and police precautions have been taken.
On the other hand, nine guerrillas are claimed to have lost their lives in a clash in the rural area of Ilýcalar town of Bingöl on 8 February evening.
Reports of local sources are however different from the information given at the statement by Bingöl Governorship.
Reportedly, an air supported military operation was carried out by Turkish soldiers late on Wednesday evening in the area of Kös and Karev regions. A clash broke out between soldiers and a group of guerrillas who were reportedly surrounded by hundreds of soldiers and special operation teams. Nine guerrillas have lost their lives, two wounded and one captured alive, according to allegations.
While some guerrillas allegedly have killed themselves rather of being captured alive during the clash, two wounded HPG members were reportedly taken to Bingöl State Hospital. The air supported military operation in the region is reported to continue.
In a statement about the subject, Bingöl Governorship claimed that nine people had died and three others wounded as a result of an operation in a house in Ilýca town. While the statement didn’t mention any clashes or give details about the event, HPG hasn’t made a statement yet.
