Dicle News Agency (DIHA) reported that Turkish soldiers opened fire on human shields who went to the area of clashes between HPG (People's Defense Forces) guerrillas and Turkish army in Ağrı province of North Kurdistan today. Former co-chair of HDP Diyadin organisation Cezmi Budak lost his life and MEYA-DER representative Cenap İlboğa has been wounded as a result of the attack.
While the clash on the skirts of the Mountain Tendürek which erupted earlier today is reported to be continuing, Turkish soldiers have reportedly attacked the civilians who went to the area of clashes to act as human shields in order for the operation to end without leaving casualties.
Soldiers in the operation area have opened fire on 20 civilians from helicopters, dispersing the people into two groups.
DBP Diyadin district co-chair Nuri Şahin who remained in one of the groups after dispersion told that 6 human shields in his group have been taken into custody by soldiers. Şahin said they have received information that two other people in the other group have been shot, while the report remains unconfirmed.
According to the statement of Hamdullah Kılınç from the other group, former co-chair of HDP Diyadin organisation Cezmi Budak has lost his life and MEYA-DER representative Cenap İlboğa has been wounded in the attack.
While ambulances have been dispatched to the area of clashes, soldiers intervened the civilians who wanted to enter the operation area upon receiving news of casualties.
Tension in the area continues.
