Solidarity with İmam Şiş on day 80 of hunger strike in Wales

Kurdish activist Imam Şiş has reached day 80 of his hunger strike in the city of Newport in Wales. A panel in Cardiff expressed solidarity with the activist.

A panel was held in Cardiff and members of Plaid Cymru Party, Delthy Jewell and Leanne Wood said they stand by Imam Şiş in his struggle.

HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven leads the hunger strike demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Kurdish activist Imam Şiş in Wales has joined the hunger strike on 17 December 2018.

A panel in Cardiff expressed its solidarity with Şiş.

Members of the Devolved Parliament of Wales, Jenny Rathbone from Labor Party and Delthy Jewell from Plaid Cymru, activists Mark Campbell, Elif Sarican and Thomas James attended the panel as speakers. A large number of Welsh activists followed the panel.

Delidy Jewell, a member of Plaid Cymru, criticized the silence of international media and governments, and said they would continue to promote solidarity as a party.

The party also sent a letter to the CPT urging it to take action.

Jewell said that they will continue to fight for justice with the Kurdish people.

Thomas James, a Labor Party member and human rights activist, said in his speech that Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's thoughts and the struggle of the Kurdish people were a guide.

Activists Mark Campbell and Elif Sarıcan talked about the pressure against the Kurdish people and the isolation of Öcalan.

Jenny Rathbone, a member of the Autonomous Council of Workers, also conveyed messages of solidarity.

Hunger striker Imam Şiş sent a video message to the panel to explain the purpose of the hunger strike and thanked the Welsh politicians and activists for their solidarity activities.

Leanne Wood, former leader of Plaid Cymru, also sent a video message saying that Şiş action has brought the Kurdish people’s struggle on the agenda.

Welsh artist Gino visited the Kurdish Community Center in Newport where Imam Şiş is on hunger strike. He gave Şiş one of his painting and expressed his solidarity.
