Some 150 arrested at 15 February protests

Turkish police detained at least 113 people yesterday during protests against the international plot that led to the imprisonment of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan 16 years ago.

Turkish police detained at least 113 people, including 11 children, in clashes that started with the intervention of the police into protest actions held against the international plot that led to the imprisonment of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan 16 years ago.

Hundreds of thousands of people participated in 15 February demonstrations held in many cities and towns across Kurdistan on the anniversary of the Kurdish Leader Abdullah Öcalan being handed over to Turkey 16 years ago. While demonstrators demanded freedom for Öcalan in the protests, clashes broke out between the demonstrators and the police in some cities following the intervention of the security forces in the actions.  Over hundred people, including children, were detained in the clashes.

*In Van province, police detained 1 person in house raids carried out in the early morning while 2 others were detained during 15 February protests.

*In clashes that broke out between the police and youth in Şırnak, police detained 23 people, including 6 children. In the Silopi district, police detained a 16-year-old child, who was later released.

*16 people were taken into custody as a result of house raids in Şahinbey district of Antep early this morning. Around 20 others, mostly children, were also detained in the district of Şehitkamil last night.

*In Amed, the main Kurdish province in North Kurdistan, tens of thousands of people participated in the protest actions. Police attacked youth following the big march, and detained 2 persons, one of whom was disabled. The detainees were released later on, while 5 others were detained in house raids in the Silvan district of Amed. In clashes in Bismil, 2 others were detained by police.

*In the Doğubeyazıt district of Ağrı, 7 people were detained in clashes that started after the intervention of the police into protests.

*In the Suruç district of Urfa, 10 people, including people from Kobane, were detained on the grounds of protesting the 15 February plot.

*48 people were detained in Mardin and its districts in clashes that continued until late yesterday.

*In Mersin, 2 children were taken into custody in the clashes that began after the intervention of the police.

*In Siirt 20 people, including 2 children, were detained in clashes with the police.
