Square in Lyon named after Hevrîn Xelef

Lyon City Council has approved to name a square after Kurdish woman Hevrîn Xelef who was murdered Turkey-backed mercenaries in Syria.

A square near the old Citroen garage in Lyon's Guillotière neighbourhood has been named after Hevrîn Xelef. Franny Dubot, mayor of Lyon's 7th District, said that “I commemorate Hevrîn Xelef who became a peace symbol in a camp in a war-torn country. Syrian, Kurdish and feminist woman was murdered at the age of 35”.

Born on November 15, 1984, Hevrîn Xelef was brutally murdered by mercenary groups affiliated with the Turkish state near Girê Spî on October 12, 2019. Xelef, was a member of the executive board of the Democratic Syrian Assembly as well as the Secretary General of the Future Syria Party.
