Swedish MP Kakabaveh shows support for Leyla Guven

Swedish Left Party MP Amineh Kakabaveh said she supports the demands of Leyla Guven, who has been on a hunger strike for 83 days. Kakabaveh demanded the release of Ocalan and all political prisoners.

Swedish Left Party MP Amineh Kakabaveh issued a video message and said she supports the struggle of hunger strikers in prisons for democracy and human rights and HDP’s struggle for democracy and rights of the Kurdish people.

Kakabaveh demanded that Turkey comply with international treaties and respect Ocalan’s rights, adding: “Leyla Guven, who has been on a hunger strike for over 80 days, was released but I know that she will continue her hunger strike.”

The Left Party MP stressed that prisoners have the right to meet with their families, to receive medical treatment when necessary and to have access to fresh air, demanding the immediate release of Gultan Kisanak and other politicians and political prisoners.

Kakabaveh had voiced the issue of hunger strikes by Leyla Guven and prisoners with the demand for an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan with a written inquiry in the parliament.

Kakabaveh said Guven was imprisoned for objecting to the Turkish state’s attacks against Afrin and for criticising the government, with a demand for a 31-year 6-month prison sentence. The Swedish MP also demanded that Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström to “take initiative to end the inhumane isolation imposed upon Abdullah Ocalan and for the release of Leyla Guven and other political prisoners”.
