Syriac people living in Midyat district of Mardin in North Kurdistan have taken to the streets in protest of the attacks of the ISIS gangs on around 35 Syriac villages in an attempt to perpetrate a massacre in Heseke town of Rojava on 23 Feb.

Demonstrators from the Syriac community staged a march to Midyat Dörtyol after gathering in front of Mort Shmuni Church, frequently chanting the slogans “Long live the fraternity of peoples”, “Long live Khabur resistance”.

In a short statement on behalf of the Syriac organisations, HDP Mardin deputy Erol Dora strongly condemned the Khabour massacre of ISIS and criticised Ankara government and the UN for remaining silent at the massacre of the Syriacs. Dora said Syriac people were being massacred savagely while the whole world chose to watch it rather than taking action against these killings. He added that the Syriac people were determined to not to leave their homeland, stressing that the Syriacs must also get organised and defend themselves against massacres.
