A group of Syriacs in the US organized a mountain-climbing protest in Los Angeles to show solidarity with the HDP parliamentarian Garo Paylan, whom AKP, MHP and CHP parliamentarians attacked for talking about the 1915 genocide during a speech he made in the parliament.
Syriacs participating in the protest organized by the Syriac Research Center carried photos of Garo Paylan, Syriac flags and signs demanding the recognition of the 1915 genocide.
CALL FOR THE RECOGNITION OF THE GENOCIDE FROM THE MOUNTAINTOP
The people that participated in the protest, which was organized with the motto ”Garo Paylan is not Alone,” called upon the Turkish state to recognize the genocide and shared messages of solidarity with Paylan and Armenian people when they reached the mountaintop.
Protestors put up photos of Garo Paylan and Syriac flag at the mountaintop, and emphasized the need for showing solidarity with the minorities that live in Turkey. Sabri Atman, the President of Seyfo Center that organized the event, stated that the Turkish state not only denies the genocide even though more than a century has passed since the atrocity, but also launches lynching campaigns against those that speak of the genocide.
ARMENIANS AND SYRIACS IN LOS ANGELES WILL COLLABORATE
On the other hand, the Armenian institutions in Los Angeles continue their preparations for the activities they will hold on April 24. Seyfo Center President Sabri Atman was invited to the meeting of Armenian institutions last week, and a consensus was reached on collaborating on the organization of the events in Los Angeles.
