Tatvan BDP majority becomes minority because of arrests

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) management decreased to the level of minority at the council of Tatvan municipality whose many workers, including two deputy mayors and two council members, have been arrested within the scope of so-called “KCK” (Kurdish Communities Union) operations.

The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) which in full course continues to follow the policy of suppressing Kurds also goes ahead with trying to lay its hand on BDP municipalities by means of an economic embargo and arrest terror.

In a statement to ANF, BDP’s Tatvan municipality mayor Abdullah Ok remarked that the general wave of arrests intensely targeted BDP municipalities. Ok pointed out that KCK operations targeted active staff and elected members of BDP which achieved a remarkable success in the 29 March elections, noting that the AKP had launched KCK operations after failing to obtain a result from the economic embargo it put on BDP municipalities. Stating that three district chairs, dozens of party executives and workers as well as two deputy mayors, two city council members and many municipality workers had been arrested in KCK operations so far, Ok added; “Because of the political operations, we have decreased to the level of minority at the municipality council as we couldn’t nominate a reserve member even.”

Ok underlined that none of his work comrades made any statement supporting violence and noted that the arrest of people who in a democratic country give struggle for honorable peace is the evidence of an political operation.

Mayor Ok continued as follows; “It is clear as a day that they are trying to eliminate BDP through judicial mechanism as they failed to win it at election polls. However, we get stronger after each arrest. The AKP has lost its credibility in the eye of Kurds.”

Ok ended remarking that the government, by telling ‘everything will be all right’ lies for the last ten years, lived on the hopes of people for a solution and caused lassitude by using the known ways instead of finding a concrete solution.
