After Istanbul,Tekel workers have this time occupied Türk-Iþ (Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions) Office in Izmir. Demonstrating against TÜRK-IÞ management and its attitude towards the 26 May general strike, workers demand the resignation of union’s president Mustafa Kumlu.
Protests against TÜRK-IÞ management are increasing. Following the occupation of Istanbul office and the start of a hunger strike by workers yesterday, workers in Izmir, Adana, Samsun and Diyarbakýr have started demonstrations in the union’s buildings.
In Izmir workers walked out to TÜRK-IÞ Aegean Region representation office at early hours and started a hunger strike after a statement.
The hunger strike will last until tomorrow at 10a.m.
Workers demand the resignation of union management and all other confederation managements that cleared out the 26 May action. Workers also called all unions under TÜRK-IÞ to start the demonstration on 26 May in front of the union’s building.
