Tens of thousands flocking to Amara

Tens of thousands from North Kurdistan and Turkey are flocking to Amara village in Urfa's Halfeti district to mark the 66th birthday of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan today.

Tens of thousands from North Kurdistan and Turkey are flocking to Amara village in Urfa's Halfeti district to mark the 66th birthday of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan today.

Following celebrations that started yesterday and lasted till late midnight in Halfeti, masses started to march to Öcalan's birthplace in Amara village 12 km to the district early in the morning.

Tens of thousands continue the march to the village which has already been covered with Öcalan's posters and flags of the PKK, YPG and YPJ, with a huge banner of the Kurdish leader hanged on a tall building at the entrance.

Celebrations in the village are expected to start in the coming hours after the arrival of the masses to the house where Öcalan was born.
