The BDP meeting within the scope of "I am here. I am defending my will" campaign has been staged today at Station Square in Diyarbakýr. As well as tens of thousands of people, the meeting was also joined by BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ, BDP deputies and mayors, civil society organizations and representatives of HAKPAR- KADEP, ÖSP, TÞDK, EMEP, ESP and DTK.

Making a speech here, BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ underlined that the Kurdish people will never give up resistance. Demirtaþ said the followings; “Along the history, the Kurdish people have resisted and revolted against the efforts made to cow them into submission. In the same way, Amed rises today and says ‘I am here’.”

Remarking that not only the AKP but also former governments had slaughtered and tortured people to turkicize everyone on the basis of ‘one language and one nation’, Demirtaþ said that Erdoðan and whoever committed the crime of assimilation will no doubt be put on trial one or other day.

BDP co-chair underlined that they will never leave KCK detainees alone, adding that; “They are our honor and we will never take a step back. These KCK operations aim to break the will of people who are bravely staging a resistance. Dear prime minister, you should know that we are using our constitutional right to resist against cruelty.

Mentioning the process of a new constitution, Demirtaþ underlined the freedom of press, mother-tongue education, local governances and diversity of languages and cultures as the indispensable subjects to be handled in this process. With respect to the Kurdish issue, Demirtaþ remarked that the isolation on Öcalan should be removed and negotiations should be started to open the way to peace.

Demirtaþ continued saying that the AKP’s insistence on breaking the movement of Kurdish people will bring its own political end. There is no way to hinder and end the movement of a people, underlined Demirtaþ.

BDP co-chair ended his speech calling on everyone to object to this cruelty and to begin the process of facing the past with the constitution of a Truth Commission.
