Police have brutally attacked thousands of people who joined the funeral of Reşit İşbilir (35) and Veysel İşbilir (34) who were shot dead by Turkish police during a demo in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district yesterday.
The police crackdown came after two Kurdish civilians were laid to rest and people left the cemetery following the speech of BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş.
Clashes broke out outside the cemetery as youths responded to the police who used tear gas, pressure water and rubber bullets against the mass.
Tension rose and clashes spread as police drove an armored vehicle into the crowd and opened fire at random.
A demonstrator, Mustafa Topçu (31), was seriously wounded after he was hit on the head with a hard object. He was rushed to Yüksekova state hospital by the people around, and was later transferred to Van for treatment, suffering a critical injury on the head.
The murder by police of two Kurdish civilians was also protested in a number of Kurdish provinces today, including Hakkâri, Muş, Iğdır, Varto, Erciş, Başkale, Şemdinli, Çukurca, Bulanık, Silopi.
Thousands throughouot the country also took to the streets to protest against police killings, including Siirt, Ağrı, Dersim, Istanbul and Ankara.
Police attacked demonstrators who gathered outside Galatasaray High School in Istanbul in the afternoon. Clashes erupted as protestors responded to the police attack which came as the mass started a march after a sit-in outside the school.
