Teyfik Ateş dies in Amed

Teyfik Ateş, a long-standing supporter of the Kurdish liberation movement, died in Amed. Two of his children are in prison, two more are with the guerrillas.

Teyfik Ateş, known under the name "Abdulkerim", suffered a cerebral haemorrhage five days ago and has been paralyzed since then. He died on Friday at Dicle University Hospital in Amed.

Ateş has been a supporter of the Kurdish liberation movement for many years. Last year he lost his wife Remziye Ateş, who was a member of the Peace Mothers Council. Two of the couple's children are with the guerrillas, two more in prison.

Teyfik Ateş has been buried in Tepecik. The village in the district of Kocaköy was burned down by the Turkish state in the 1990s.
