Hundreds of thousands of people have been left unemployed due to the crisis and many tradesmen had to close their shops. Amed tradesmen are among those who deeply feel the economic crisis.
Sadun Özdemir, who has been a tradesman for 20 years said: "People are suffering. We do not know what to do or where to go. People used to meet all their needs and support their friends around them. But now everyone is worried about getting his own bread. We cannot take bread home. The crisis threw us in a dark hole. Nobody comes to the store to buy. We are on the brink of bankruptcy. This crisis has been going on for 4 years. The coronavirus clearly added to the difficulties we already had. The AKP only serves the rich. The reason for the economic crisis and chaos is the AKP government."
People are hungry
A citizen who did not want to reveal his name for security reasons said that they were in a very serious situation due to the economic crisis and added: "We are a crowded family and we make a living with the salary of my disabled sister. Our kitchen is always empty. Our debts cannot be paid off. The country is in a terrible state. The virus has bent our back. The government does not provide any support to the people and instead is busy with occupying other countries’ lands. The war policies of the AKP government are taking a toll on people. The AKP is putting the money of the people into war. There are starving people in Turkey while they live like kings in the palace. Is this justice?”
Teachers can’t get a job
Ilknur Kılıç, one of the thousands of teachers who have not been appointed, said that the economic crisis is getting deeper. Emphasizing that the crisis affects all citizens, Kılıç said: "Tradesmen cannot do business due to the economic crisis. Citizens cannot enrol their children at school, they cannot meet their needs. Unemployed people cannot find a job. People have become unable to breathe due to the economic crisis."
Süleyman Hacıoğlu, a tradesman for 14 years, said that his expenses are more than his income. Pointing out that the economic situation is getting worse, Hacıoğlu continued: "In the past days, 12 tradesmen lowered the shutters of their shops. Because there is no job and we sit in our shops until the evening."
