The government is putting obstacles on the way to peace, Tuðluk

Speaking to Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review Aysel Tuðluk, the co-leader of the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) said "the government is not accepting the framework for a solution. I’m losing hope, but I want to preserve my hope for peace.”

Tuðluk added that "The prime minister who is brave enough to solve the [Kurdish] problem will go down in history.”

Commenting on the statement by Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan who said that "Either a substantial negotiation process starts on June 15 or a great war. Both would be great as they are sacred and meaningful”,

Tuðluk said negotiations had actually reached a certain point and that there were certain steps that the government had to take.

“Of course, the problem cannot be solved in a day or two, but those steps were never taken,” said Tuðluk, noting that the June 15 deadline was to give the new government and Parliament a chance to show their stance on the issue following the June 12 election.

She also said the Kurdish people were running out of patience in the current “deadlocked” period.

“He [Öcalan] is saying that we are faced with two options and that the outcome depends on the stance of the government and the state up to June 15,” said Tuðluk.

And she added: “The state stepped in for the first time, and that is what should have been done. The state is still continuing the talks. I find these conversations well-intended. However, the ruling Justice and Development Party [AKP] is not accepting the framework for the solution,” said Tuðluk.

“Therefore, the reason that a solution cannot be reached is the government,” said Tuðluk.

The Kurdish issue is imposing its own solution given the current situation, said Tuðluk. “This period of no solution cannot continue any longer. This issue will be solved sooner or later through discussions and politics. But here’s the thing; while we continue to display or hope in a solution and peace, the government does not reveal its will regarding a solution. So the government and the prime minister are responsible for this deadlock.”

Tuðluk is an independent deputy candidate for Van in the upcoming elections.
