Turkey's record on freedom of expression marked a new low when Reporters Without Borders’ World Press Freedom index stated the country has now fallen from the 148th place to the 154th.
RSF said that Turkey, a country of “political importance” amid the Syrian conflict, was “currently the world’s biggest prison for journalists.”
Syria, the association said, became “the deadliest country for journalists” and added that in the last year Turkey's paranoia about the Kurdish issue meant new detentions and trials for journalists.
