The Spanish Confederacion Intersindacal issues statement of solidarity with Kurds

The Spanish Confederacion Intersindacal issued a statement of solidarity with the Kurdish people after the deadly attack in Paris.

The Spanish trade union Confederacion Intersindacal, issued a statement to express solidarity with the Kurdish people after the deadly attack in Paris.

The statement said: “The news of the attack in Paris against a Kurdish cultural center fills us with sadness and anger. Sadness for the three activists murdered and others injured at the hands of an individual who, despite being on file with the police due to his participation in previous attempted attacks, has finally achieved his objective, which was none other than to cause harm and pain among the Kurdish community. We have always denounced that the rise of racism and xenophobia is the prelude to fascism. Unfortunately, the prevailing neoliberalism is facilitating the growth of these ideas that lead us towards a model of society that we combat.”

The statement added: “It also fills us with rage because it is an attack against a people who have been fighting and suffering for decades. The Kurdish people are fighting to carry out a revolution in Rojava, harassed by the Islamic State with little help, beyond their own forces. Likewise, in its fight against religious fanaticism, it is in the front line in denouncing the theocratic regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We have seen in previous weeks the mobilizations promoted by Iranian women under the Kurdish slogan of Women, Life and Freedom.”

The statement added: “The Kurdish community has been denouncing the Turkish involvement in this new attack in Paris. We are witnessing an informational distortion. The attack is described as racially motivated, thus hiding the real motivations of the perpetrator and his beneficiaries. We want to express our condolences to the affected families and the Kurdish community in general, while reaffirming our internationalist  solidarity and support for their struggles for recognition and respect for cultural diversity, their fight against religious fundamentalism and the horizon of emancipation for women of the Middle East and the world.”
