The US State Department added Turkey to its list of "countries involved in the use of child soldiers".

According to Reuters, the US Department of State's 2021 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, it was stated that Turkey provided "concrete support with child soldiers" to the Sultan Murad division in Syria.

A senior State Department official also referred to the use of child soldiers in Libya, saying that Washington hopes to work with Ankara to resolve its problem.

"Especially with regard to Turkey... For the first time, a NATO member is on the list of child soldier’s prevention action. As a respected regional leader and NATO member, Turkey has the opportunity to address the issue of the deployment and use of child soldiers in Syria and Libya," the Foreign Ministry official said

Countries on this list are subject to restrictions on certain security assistance and commercial licensing of military equipment, without presidential exemption, according to the State Department's report. It is not yet known whether the restrictions will be applied automatically to Turkey given its addition to the list.
