The West declared a 'total war' on Russia, Lavrov says

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Friday said that the West has declared a "total war" on the entire Russian world, warning that it would “continue for a long time.”

Western powers have increased sanctions on Moscow after it launched a major military offensive against Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov condemned the West's "total war" on Russia and pointed out that the war would continue for a long time. “In general, one can be certain that this situation will last,” he added.

“The United States and its satellites are doubling, tripling, quadrupling their efforts to contain our country from unilateral economic sanctions to deeply misleading propaganda in the global media,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.

Lavrov reacted to “an unprecedented Russian phobia”, insisting that the Western countries have introduced a "cancel culture" by banning Russian classics.

Lavrov said that the West has forbade classics such as Tchaikovsky, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and Pushkin.

After the war in Ukraine, many Western cultural institutions have stopped cooperating with Russian state institutions or banned artists who supported the attack on Ukraine.

Moscow accuses Ukraine of being under the influence of neo-Nazis who committed the "crime of genocide" against the Russian-speaking population, and the West of waging a proxy war against Russia.
