Thirty people arrested in Ergenekon raids

With simultaneous raids in 10 cities, 30 people were detained today charged with links with the Ergenekon organization.

The raids were organized by Konya police and were carried out in consideration of the evidences gathered from the raids of last year. It is stated that 30 detainees could be sent to Adana.

Under the direction of Adana Special-Public Prosecution Office, a search was carried out last year in the houses of a total of 37 people in 11 cities among them Ýstanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Isparta. In these operations on 16 April 2009, 6 people were arrested.

Ergenekon" is the name given to a clandestine, Kemalist ultra-nationalist organization in Turkey with ties to members of the country's military and security forces.Something similar to the Gladio organization in Italy. The group is accused of terrorism in Turkey and is allegedly responsible for the killings of journalists, politicians, unionists.
