Thousands continue to flock to Kobanê border

People from North Kurdistan are continuing to flock to the Kobanê border of Rojava in solidarity with the people of the canton who are under attack from ISIS gangs. People have left Hakkari, Mardin and Van to travel to the Kobanê border. Four buses from Van were stopped by police in the Edremit district last night. The police told them they would not be allowed to proceed and that this was 'a central decision'. The people protested, saying: "we will resist and show solidarity with the people of Kobanê."

DBP Van province executive, Uğur Özlü, said: "We are waiting for MPs to arrive. Our freedom of movement is being obstructed."

Convoy leaves Hakkari

Many vehicles have left Hakkari to head for the border at Suruç.

Perihan Karaman, a spokesperson for the town council assembly, said women were in the forefront of the Kobanê and Rojava revolution and that women would also defend the revolution.

People also left the town of Mardin and its districts to go to Suruç. DBP Mardin co-president Musa Alkan said preparations were being made in districts such as Nusaybin, Kızıltepe and Dargeçit to go to the border with Kobanê, adding: "We call on all our people. Now is the time to show solidarity with the resistance in Kobanê. It is the day to unite against the ISIS barbarian gangs. If we don't support the people of Kobanê we will lose."

People also travelling from Yüksekova

Prior to leaving the town of Yüksekova, DBP Yüksekova district chair Fikret Turgut invited all the people of Yüksekova to go to the border to take ownership of Kobanê. Turgut said: "We are setting out to be with our people who are fighting the savagery of ISIS. If necessary, we will cross to Kobanê and fight against the ISIS murderers."

Demonstration in Batman

A march was organised in Batman to protest at the ISIS attacks on Kobanê. Hundreds of people shouted slogans such as: "Kobanê will be the graveyard of ISIS" and "Long live the resistance of the YPG". The marchers also protested at the sealing of Kurdish schools, carrying banners demanding an end to obstruction of mother tongue education.

Torch-lit march in Siirt

In Siirt a torch-lit protest was organised by the DBP youth assembly to protest at ISIS attacks on Kobanê. Hundreds of people supported the march, including Peace Mothers and IHD representatives. People carried posters of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and PKK, KCK and YPG flags. Slogans such as "Long live president Apo", "ISIS murderers, AKP collaborators", "Long live the resistance in Kobanê" and "Long live the resistance of the YPG and YPJ". The marchers carried flaming torches.
Following the march DBP Youth Assembly member Mücahit Tas read out a statement, expressing anger at the ISIS, stressing it was supported by international and regional forces and used to attack the Kurds.

Taş added: "Reactionary forces, first and foremost the fascist Turkish state, that do not want a free Kurdistan in the Middle East, are organising these attacks on our people. We must defeat these attacks by supporting the heroic YPG," inviting the young people to join the ranks of the YPG-YPJ.

Following speeches the torch-lit protest ended with the letting off of fireworks.
