Thousands of people from all over Kurdistan have flocked to Suruç for Newroz celebrations, opposite Kobanê, where historic resistance has been waged against ISIS gangs for the last 6 months.

The rally field at the border has been decorated by posters of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and the flags of YPG/YPJ, while tens of thousands of people have begun to celebrate Newroz at the Kobanê border.

The big Newroz celebration is to be held in the village of Etmenek in Suruç district. While people are trying to reach Suruç for Newroz by buses or by walking, Turkish soldiers and police have set up control points in Aligör, at the entrance too Suruç, and in front of the Cukobirlik building on the road to the Mürşitpınar border crossing (Kobanê Serxet).

The rally area is already full of people who have started to celebrate Newroz by singing songs and performing traditional Kurdish folk music and the halay, while the posters of YPG/YPJ and Öcalan as well as banners favouring the Kobanê resistance and demanding the freedom of the Kurdish Leader, Öcalan, have been hung all around the area.

The Newroz celebration at the border will be attended by DTK, HDP, DBP executives as well as the HDP Imrali delegation and representatives of various organisations across the world and Turkey, while MKM Revolutionary Marches Chora, Hozan Comert, Cevdet Bağca, Group Vardiya, Koma Welate Rojê and Rojava Group will stage musical performances at the rally.
