The family of People's Defense Forces (HPG) member Cevdet Örtaþ (Hamza Botan) was finally given their son's body from Malatya's morgue. They took him to Hakkari for burial. Örtaþ was one of the HPG members who lost their life in the Kazan Valley in Çukurca, a district of Hakkari, on 22-24 October. His body was also one of nine bodies left in the clash area and found by the delegation formed by the Human Rights Association (ÝHD), Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and Democratic Society Congress (DTK).
Tens of thousands of people -including many deputies, local politicians and NGO representatives in every town and village en route welcomed Örtaþ's body and shouted slogans such as “martyrs never die.”
Besides huge flags of HPG, the crowd carried the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Confederalism flags. They also had pictures of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Following burying Örtaþ, the Solidarity Association of Mesopotamian Families of Victims of Forced Disappearances (MEYA-DER) Hakkari Branch representative Sadullah Düzen and BDP deputy Adil Kurt addressed the attendees and said, “Our people will continue to protect their values and their children whatever it takes.”
The young guerrilla's father Muhammet Örtaþ said, "My son is a martyr of Kurdistan. My condolences to all of you. I keep my head up."
