Three dead in airplane incident in Istanbul

Most passengers were Turkish nationals but 22 passengers were from 12 countries.

The Pegasus Airlines Boeing 373 aircraft operating the Izmir-Istanbul flight, skidded off the runway after a hard landing at Sabiha Gökçen Airport. 

According to the statements of Turkish state officials, the number of casualties increased to 3 and the number of injured to 180.

Most passengers were Turkish nationals but 22 passengers were from 12 countries. Relatives of the injured can get information by calling the emergency line number 184.

After the accident, 37 flights were diverted to Istanbul Airport, while Sabiha Gökçen Airport was closed.

Turkish Airlines also announced that it has canceled all departures and arrivals for Sabiha Gökçen Airport on Wednesday.

Investigation launched

The Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident at Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Pegasus had been involved in another incident, at Sabiha Gökçen, on 7 January.
