A Syrian court charged three Kurds for participarting to a Kurdish poetry festival yesterday.
Kurdish poets ʿUmar ʿAbdi Ismaʿil, ʿAbdulsamad Husayn Mahmud and Ahmad Fatah Isma'il were ordered to remain in prison by military tribunals judge. They are accused of seperatism and expressing ideas against unity of the Syrian state.
According to Kurdwatch website the Political Security Directorate summoned and arrested the defendants on December 18, 2010 because of their participation in the »Kurdish Poetry Festival« on November 19, 2010 in a town near al-Dschawadiya (Çilaxa).
Before the annual festival could begin, members of the Political Security Directorate stormed the venue the home of Ahmad Fatah Ismaʿil and collected the personal data of those in attendance. ʿUmar ʿAbdi Ismaʿil and ʿAbdulsamad Husayn Mahmud are thought to be the organizers of the event.
