Hundreds of youths gathered in the southern province of Adana on Sunday to protest the attack on the Agit Suruç Martyrs' Cemetery in Bendere region near Bagok mountain last week.
Groups of protestors gathered in the districts of Yüreğir and Seyhan on Sunday evening to protest the attack on the graveyard of 44 HPG (People's Defense Forces) and PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) guerrillas.
Demonstrators closed the roads to traffic in Dağlıoğlu, Gülbahçe, Anadolu and Hürriyet neighborhoods before they started a march to police stations in the neighborhoods. Police attacked groups as they started to march, using intense tear gas and pressure water as well as rubber bullets. Clashes broke out in the neighborhoods as demonstrators responded to the attack with fireworks and blast bombs.
Clashes lasted till late night.
On the other hand, police also attacked another group who gathered at the Atatürk park in Seyhan district to condemn the brutal police crackdown on peaceful ODTÜ students who are protesting against the demolishment of the forested area on their campus in the scope of a project planning the construction of a highway in the area.
Police attacked the crowd as they started a protest march. Clashes broke out in the area when demonstrators responded to the police attack with stones. Clashes soon expanded to other areas as police increased the brutality against peaceful protestors.
Three people, including one police officer, were wounded and many demonstrators were taken into custody after the brutal intervention.
