Executives of PUK (YNK, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) and KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) have concluded that it is time for the so long waited Kurdish National Congress, at the meeting held in Hewler on 23 November.
The meeting, led by Iraqi Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani, and attended by central committee members of both parties mainly dealt with the recent developments in the Kurdistan region; results from Barzani’s visit to European countries, the revolt in Syria, the situation of Kurds and ongoing air assaults by the Turkish army.
The meeting laid emphasis on the need for a “common will to be displayed by Kurds in the face of developments” and concluded that neighboring peoples and states should also be cognizant of opinions of Kurds.
While a national unity among Kurds has been discussed and remained at the agenda of North and South Kurdistan for a long time, the National Congress had been projected for October before it was procrastinated by Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani on grounds of “unfavorable conditions”.
