Preparations are continuing for the tomb of Suleyman Shah to be relocated in the village of Ashme, which is in the Canton of Kobanê. The village is under the control of YPG/YPJ forces. Turkish tanks have been deployed in the village and troops are encircling the hill where the tomb is to be relocated with barbed wire.

The new site of the tomb of Suleyman Shah, the grandfather of the first Ottoman ruler, is being prepared in the village of Ashme to the west of Kobanê city. The village is under the control of YPG/YPJ forces.

The tomb of Suleyman Shah was moved yesterday from the village of Karakozak on the banks of the Euphrates where it was under an ISIS blockade. Turkish troops and YPG/YPJ forces carried out a joint operation yesterday to evacuate the tomb. While the remains of Suleyman Shah and other valuable artefacts were taken to Turkey, preparations have begun to relocate the tomb on a hillock in the village of Ashme.

The village, to the west of Kobanê city, was liberated from the clutches of ISIS gangs around 10 days ago by YPG/YPJ forces. The new site for the tomb is only 100 metres from the border.

The tomb of Suleyman Shah was previously located on the banks of the Euphrates 80 kilometres south, but was moved after the original site was flooded by the creation of the reservoir Lake Assad in 1974.
