The tribes in Urfa were disappointed with the result of the elections they participated as independent candidates. Important names from the most influential tribes of the city, Bucak, Izol and Þeyhanlý, failed at the election competition.
The tribe leaders fell into silence when they failed to go to the parliament from Urfa which sent 10 MPs to the AKP and two MPs to the Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block, according to unofficial results.
Zülfikar Ýzol, who participated in the election as an independent candidate after being excluded by the AKP, received 15 thousand 865 votes which was far below the expectations. Zülfikar Ýzol received 5100 votes from Siverek and only 30 votes from Harran.
The Bucak Tribe in Siverek took part in the elections as independent. While the Tribe Leader Sedat Edip Bucak, one of the important names of Susurluk event, didn't participate in the elections, his brother Ahmet Ersin Bucak appeared as an independent candidate on behalf of the tribe. Ahmet Ersin Bucak could receive just 28 thousand 795 votes; 19 thousand 328 votes from Siverek and 30 votes from Harran.
Similarly, two important names of the Seyhanlý Tribe, Mahmut Cevheri and Zeynel Fatih Þýhanlýoglu, have also lost the elections. While Mahmut Cevheri, brother of Sabahattin Cevheri who resigned from the AKP last year, got 6 thousand 109 votes, Fevzi Þýhanlýoðlu’s nephew received only 6 thousand 834 votes.
While Ibrahim Ayhan, who wasn't able to enter the parliament by a narrow margin in 2007 and arrested nine months ago within the KCK operation, was elected with a record vote of 75 thousand 58, other candidate Ibrahim Binici was hardly elected for the second time with 44 thousand 263 votes.
