BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) proposal for an inquiry committee to investigate unidentified murders was rejected by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey plenary session on Tuesday.
The ruling AK (Justice and Development) Party deputies voted 'no' whereas opposition CHP (People's Republican Party) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrýkulu voted in favour of the establishment of such a commission.
BDP Diyarbakýr MP Altan Tan reminded of the fact that the AKP government did nothing in its past term, despite BDP deputies proposals, to open an investigation against the Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-terror Unit (JÝTEM) headquarters in Ýçkale, Diyarbakýr. Here excavation has been ordered after the accidental discovery of human bones in the yard. Tan also noted that he had great difficulty in entering the excavation site for observation whereas ministers and MPs of the ruling party could easily come and go. Tan said: "We simply have two questions. We want to know who these bones belong to? And we want to know the truth about the disappeared?". Tan also underlined the need for the establishment of a truth commissions.
