Türkali: Kemalism could not defeat Kurdish resistance

The Istanbul symposium of Commission to Investigate Truths of Diyarbakýr Military Prison began with the speech of author Vedat Türkali. Sharing a memory of his from the process of Dersim Genocide, Türkali said that; “We couldn’t have a political struggle with a strong opposition at that time. Conditions were very severe and the Kemalist regime was quite cruel.”

Türkali reminded of relations between the TKP (Communist Party of Turkey) and the Kemalist government, Türkali said; “Kemalism assimilated the left. It also tried to assimilate Kurds but it couldn’t. Kurds resisted and continue to resist.”

Remarking that neither PKK guerrillas nor Öcalan is a terrorist, Türkali underlined that he never believed “terrorism” would be useful. On the other hand, I feel happy to write the shot of Diyarbakýr Prison’s commander with three bullets because this serves him right.”

“This is a matter of not only soldiers but also the civil power which doesn’t hesitate to practice the worst”, added Türkali.

92 year-old author Türkali also reminded U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Turkey and added; “They are planning to take precaution against the PKK but they will not come up with a solution. Movements of peoples cannot be suppressed.”

Referring to Interior Minister’s statement in which he said that ‘KCK detainee Professor Büþra Ersanlý was involved in communist activities in her youth’, Türkali said; “The Minister is guilty because this is an attitude of fascism which has been confirmed as a crime against humanity.”

Mentioning the People's Congress created by BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) and various left parties and organizations, Türkali expressed his pleasure with the support given by left parties to the struggle led by BDP.

“We will either save the world or die out. We need to be conscious of the fact that our clashing children at mountains, intellectuals, workers, young people and all respectable people are fighting to save both themselves and the world.”
