After the arrival of FSA members, Turkish officials in Karkamış have called upon the town’s residents to leave immediately.
On the one hand, the Turkish army is bombarding Jarablus town center and villages with Katyusha missiles 25 times a day, and on the other hand Turkish officials are keeping nearly 1000 FSA members from Syria in Karkamış near the border.
Karkamış Governorate used ISIS gangs’ shelling of Karkamış from Jarablus as an excuse to declare a ‘curfew,’ which has been going on for a week now. The Governorate has also been making public announcements and calling upon the residents of Karkamış to evacuate the town.
Local sources report that 30 tanks are being kept at a location 60 kms away from the town center, and many special operations police officers are positioned in different locations across the town. Many soldiers have also been positioned in different parts of Karkamış.
As Turkey prepares for the cross-border operation that would enable Syrian opposition fighters backed by Turkey to take control of Jarablus, nearly a thousand FSA fighters are being kept on the Karkamış border and are waiting to cross over to Jarablus.
An FSA member with the alias Abu Samir spoke to BBC and said that him and other FSA fighters were brought from north Aleppo and İdlib to Turkey by Turkish-speaking individuals, and has been stationed at a ‘military base’ in Karkamış.
