Turkey has sent back a Danish truck of aid for Kobanê which departed on 14 March and was held waiting at Bulgaria-Turkey border customs gate for over a month.

The truck loaded with aid for Kobanê, which included clothing, blankets, toys and personal cleaning supplies, left Copenhagen in mid March. The truck which was held waiting at Hamzabeyli customs gate at Turkey-Bulgaria border since, was referred back to the Danish city of Værløse one month later on the grounds of not having a license of donation.

The aid had been collected by Furesø Municipal Council Member Celal Deniz Kılıç and Kobanê Støttefond Association as part of a campaign in solidarity with the Kurds in Rojava.

Celal Deniz Kılıç who talked with Danish Foreign Minister Martin Lindegård on the matter last Thursday, told that Lindegård pledged to follow the issue closely and put pressure on Turkey regarding the opening of a humanitarian corridor for the delivery of aid into Kobanê.

Kılıç who held a press briefing on the subject said that the imposition of “license of donation” was nothing but one of the unending excuses put forward by Turkey to hinder aid delivery to Kobanê.

As the problem remains unsolved, customs officers at Hamzabeyli border gate asked the delivery of the aid to the Turkish Red Crescent instead, stressing that it is not possible to have the truck reach Kobanê.
