One of the mules belonged to 13-year-old Bedran Encü who was among the 34 civilians massacred in a Turkish bombardment on 28 December 2011. Speaking about the ongoing murder of mules in the village, Veli Encü, head of the Justice for Roboski Peace for the Universe Platform, said that; “They massacred our people, since when they have imposed all kinds of repression on us, and are still continuing to do so. Now they are killing our mules. We do really not understand what they want from us.”
Criticizing the silence of animal rights activist in the West at the killing of mules in Roboski, Encü said; “It looks like neither the lives nor mules of the Kurds matter to them.”
Encü stated that mules helped them not only in cross-border trade but also for the transport of sick and injured people, as well as carrying woods in winter season. "We also carried our dead on our mules. They are a part of our lives. By killing the mules, the military wants to inflict yet another blow on our lives."
Our lands are full with corpses of mules, Encü said, adding that they would file a criminal complaint on the matter in the coming days.
