Turkish police and troops attack people at border

Turkish police and troops attacked people, including women and children, waiting at the Syrian border at the Mürşitpınar border crossing this morning.Troops and soldiers fired tear gas, causing injuries to many people.

Turkish soldiers are also preventing people who brought their families from Kobanê to Suruç yesterday returning to Kobanê to fight ISIS.

Many people who answered the call to mobilise and came to a tent put up in the village of Edmanik spent the night there, hailing the new day with slogans such as "Long live the resistance of the YPG" and "Long live President Apo".

Hundreds of troops were deployed to the border area this morning. The soldiers are calling on people from Kobanê who have massed at the border to go back. The soldiers fired tear gas which affected people on both sides of the border. The Turkish troops said they would not allow people from Rojava who had brought their families to safety to return to Rojava.

People have responded to the attack by troops by throwing stones, while on the Kobanê side of the border the people are shouting slogans and protesting the troops' attack. People angrily condemned the soldiers' actions, saying: "DAISH (ISIS) is trying to besiege Kobanê, while Turkish troops are helping ISIS efforts by intervening here. It is time to take possession of Kobanê."

People at the border near Suruç said demonstrations in cities make a contribution, but that the important thing was to establish a chain at the border, calling on everyone to mass at the border. The attacks by troops and police are continuing.
