Twitter campaign against Facebook

Twitter campaign against Facebook

The British newspaper, Daily Mail, published a document on Wednesday illustrating Facebook’s so far secret policy on what can and cannot be uploaded to the social networking site. The document has been leaked by a former employee and is of great interest due to a number or reasons. Facebook has earlier been criticised for removing photos of breastfeeding mothers while at the same time allowing pornographic photos.

The criticism against Facebook’s secret policy is growing. A Twitter campaign is planned to start this Monday to show discontent against and spread awareness about the secret policy of Facebook, which is considered bizarre and violates the rights of Kurdish Facebook users.

Also worth noting are the guidelines concerning Turkey, the PKK and under Kurdistan under the section titled: “IP blocks and International Compliance”. This segment reveals that Facebook has a specific policy for the management of issues related to Turkey and Kurdistan.

The segment further brings to light how Facebook has fully surrendered to a Turkish view on Kurds and Kurdistan. There is no equivalent or other issue in these guidelines concerning any other community, people, leader or resistance group where Facebook has taken a similar firm stand.

The policy also details that it is not approved to post photos portraying the map of Kurdistan or anything else related to the Kurdish PKK or the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, unless it is used as a direct way of propaganda against the same.

Furthermore, it is also prohibited to post derogatory comments or anything else considered as attacks, Ataturk, the founder of modern day Turkey, or to publish photos or videos of burning of the Turkish flag.

#Facebook och #Fascistbook

A campaign is starting this Monday against the secret policy of Facebook on Twitter, an initiative of #TwitterKurds.

#TwitterKurds is calling upon all Twitter users to use the hash tag #Facebook and #Fascistbook. The aim of this campaign is to draw attention to the secret policy of Facebook, which is considered as a violation of Facebook users’ rights.
