Two children die in tent fire in Van

Two children died and two others were injured when a fire erupted in a tent set up for quake survivors in the eastern province of Van on Friday.

The incident took place in a tent in Karpuzalan village. The fire was reportedly caused by a heating stove in the Tolukan family's tent.

Twelve-year-old Bahar Tolukan and 6-year-old Ýsmail Tolukan were killed in the fire, and 12-year-old Mikail Tolukan and 2-year-old Kerem Tolukan received serious burns.

These are the first victims after the hundreds who died because of the quake. The kids are the victims of slow intervention by the government. The people in Van have said all along that the central government has indeed left them alone.

Thousands of quake victims are taking shelter in tents in Van after the province was hit by two earthquakes in the past two months. The two quakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 5.6, killing 644 people and leaving thousands of others homeless.
