Two city councillors in Sweden send support for Guven

“Together, we must pressure Sweden to ensure Turkey respects human rights, through the UN and the EU. You must do it too!”

Borås City Council Left Party Group Chairperson Ida Legenmark and Gävle City Council Member Jin Hajo sent a message of solidarity for Leyla Guven and prisoners who are on hunger strikes demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Ocalan.

Ida Legenmark said Turkey has been pressuring the Left Party’s sister party HDP and that many HDP elected officials are under arrest.

Legenmark said Leyla Guven is one of the politicians imprisoned by Turkey and has been on a hunger strike for weeks to protest human rights violations. The Councillor added: “I support Leyla’s struggle to ensure human rights and the opportunity to freely engage in democratic efforts.

Legenmark said: “Together, we must pressure Sweden to ensure Turkey respects human rights, through the UN and the EU. You must do it too!”

Gävle City Council Member Jin Hajo said she supports Leyla Guven’s fight for human rights, justice and democracy and added: “We must all support Leyla Guven and those who fight for democracy.”
