Two-day march for Öcalan in Vienna

Kurds in Europe stage long marches in protest at the February 15 international conspiracy against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the isolation imposed on him by the Turkish state.

The Democratic Kurdish Community Centres of St. Pölten and Vienna organised a two-day march in Paris to protest the 21st anniversary of the International Conspiracy which led to the capture in Kenya of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 15 February 1999.

The march from St. Pölten to Vienna kicked off at 10:00 Friday morning with the participation of 50 activists who will cover at least 25 kilometers.

During a meeting before the launch of the march, a meeting was held at St. Pölten Democratic Kurdish Community Centre where a march commission was elected. The police took intense security measures around the association before the march began.

A press statement made before the start of the march condemned the international conspiracy against the Kurdish leader. The activists then began to march behind a banner that reads “Freedom for Öcalan, status for Kurdistan”.

The second stage of the march will kick off at 13:00. The activists will stage a rally after marching from Westbahnhof to Heldenplatz on Saturday. The rally will be followed by a public meeting at the Vienna association. Organizers called for participation in the demonstration.
