UK government announced that some UK military personnel contributed to the anti-ISIS Coalition air campaign against ISIS targets in Syria through the provision of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, describing ISIS as posing a direct threat to the UK and to countries around the world.
The British country had authorized pilots to join airstrikes in Iraq last year, but the parliament’s authorization had not included airstrikes on Syrian soil.
UK Prime minister David Cameron stated in his office today that British pilots contributed to air strikes in Syria despite the lack of a parliamentarian decision on the issue. It has been reported that this participation was not unlawful because of the participation of British pilots in the coalition’s chain of command.
Defense Ministry of UK stated that British army personnel participated in operations against ISIS under the structure of US and Canadian forces in the region.
"The UK is not conducting air strikes in Syria. But we do have a long-standing embed programme with allies, where small numbers of UK personnel act under the command of host nations. That has been the case in Syria, although there are currently no pilots operating in this region. When embedded, UK personnel are effectively operating as foreign troops", the statement said.
