UK vows to continue to support the stability of Iraq and Kurdistan Region

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office released a statement expressing their support for the Iraqi authorities in their investigations after the deadly Turkish attack.

Reactions continue after Wednesday’s artillery attack by the Turkish army that claimed the lives of 9 civilians and left 23 others injured. The victims were targeted by Turkish artillery in a picnic area in the countryside of the Zakho district, in Duhok province. The victims of the Turkish attack, all of whom were Arab tourists from the central and western parts of Iraq, include a one-year-old.

In a statement about the massacre, a spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said that the UK is seriously concerned by the reports of civilian casualties resulting from an attack in Zakho district of Duhok on 20 July.

“We offer our deepest condolences to those affected and express our support for the Iraqi authorities in their investigations,” the statement said.

“The UK deplores the loss of life and will continue to support the stability of Iraq including the Kurdistan Region of Iraq,” it added.
