Unemployment in Turkey: over 4 million people without job

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), announced its 2020 workforce statistics for the month of August.
According to TÜİK, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over was 4,194,000 people across the country. The unemployment rate was at 13.2 percent.
The number of employed people decreased by 975,000 people in August 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 27,554,000 people. The employment rate was 43.9 percent with a 2.4 percentage point decrease.
The youth unemployment rate was 26.1 percent.
Work carried out by of independent institutions and unions shows that the unemployment figure is in reality much heavier than that presented by TÜİK.
