US decision against PKK leaders protested in Italy

A press statement read during the demo called for the US to revoke the decision against Kurdish leaders.

In Florence city of Italy, the US decision to put a bounty on three leaders of the Kurdish movement was protested.

The protest march started in front of the US Consulate where Kurds and their friends protested against the US decision against Cemil Bayık, Murat Karayılan and Duran Kalkan. According to organizers, around three thousand people attended the demonstration.

The demo witnessed a strong participation of socialist, democratic and anarchist groups who unfurled a banner that read “Take your fascist hands off the representatives who are the honour of the Kurds” with images of Bayık, Karayılan and Kalkan on it. Demonstrators chanted slogans in favor of Öcalan and the PKK and the protest was widely covered by the Italian media.

A press statement read during the demo called for the US to revoke the decision.

On the other hand, Revolutionary Youth Movement (Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger) organized a demonstration marking the 40th foundation anniversary of the PKK and demanding freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Hundreds joined the torch march with images of Öcalan and flags of YPG/YPJ (People’s/Women’s Defense Units) and TEV-DEM (Democratic Society Movement).

Jinda Riha spoke on behalf of the action committee and congratulated the 40th foundation anniversary of the PKK for all humanity, revolutionaries, oppressed folks and the peoples of Kurdistan.

“We, the youth, who have been in the fore fronts of our people’s struggle for 40 years, will undertake the greatest responsibility in this historic process as well.”

Riha stressed that the 41st year of the PKK will be the year of victory, adding; “Leader Apo’s freedom is our freedom.”
