Following the largest “KCK” wave in 28 cities on 13 February, the AKP regime has taken at least 37 people into custody today in the provinces of Þýrnak, Van, Urfa, Diyarbakýr, Ýzmir and Mersin. The number of people who have been taken into custody in the last 48 hours has reached 237.
The KCK operation of yesterday continued at evening hours as police took six people into custody in Aktepe village of Diyarbakýr while six people, five of whom are children, were at the same hours detained in Van city center.
Today’s KCK operation started at early morning hours with the detention of a total of 15 people in Viranþehir, Birecik, Suruç and Ceylanpýnar districts of Urfa, three people in Bismil district of Diyarbakýr and three others in Cizre district of Þýrnak.
On the other hand, security forces have today carried out house raids in Mersin where two MEYA-DER executives were detained and in Buca district of Ýzmir where two university students were taken into custody.
According to the statement by Police Chief of Istanbul, 149 people were taken into custody on 13 February within the scope of “KCK” operations in 28 cities. Many others were also detained by police under separate political operations. Detainees whom the Chief of Police declared as “bomber” consist of union members, children, politicians, a journalist and a scenarist.
The figures of people who were taken into custody in yesterday’s KCK operation are as follows; 42 people in Istanbul [included a scenarist], 33 people in Batman, 15 woman members of unions in Ankara, at least 20 people in Mardin and its districts, 13 people in Adana, 10 people in Ýzmir, 10 people in Diyarbakýr [included a journalist], 10 people in Antep, 8 people in Van, 6 people in Hakkari, 6 people in Þýrnak, 6 union members in Mersin, 3 people in Karayazý district of Erzurum, 3 people in Urfa and Suruç district, 2 people in Denizli, one person in Adýyaman, one person in Bitlis and one person in Kocaeli.
In the same day, 10 people were also taken into custody today in Halfeti district of Urfa as a result of police attack on the protest act against 15 February conspiracy.
On 12 February, 11 people were taken into custody in Urfa, 10 people in Adana [included a journalist] and one person in Mersin.
And on 11 February, 26 people, included a 10 year-old boy, were taken into custody in the provinces of Manisa, Van, Cizre, Mersin and Istanbul.
According to the figures obtained from the news reflected to ANF and DIHA, the number of people who have been taken into custody between 1-14 Februarys for political reasons has reached 445. Considering 887 people who were taken into custody in January, this number rose to 1332; which means 29 people have been taken into custody per day.
