“We aim to denounce attacks on Shengal and demand status for Êzidîs”

Participants of the Êzidîs' Long March Germany to Brussels said: “We stage this march to denounce genocidal attacks on Shengal and demand status for Êzidî people.”

The march started by Êzidîs living in Europe from Dusseldorf to the Brussels in order to protest the AKP/KDP gangs' attacks on Shengal continues on day 4.

Participants Shengal Diaspora Assembly (MŞD) President Fikret İğrek and Êzidî artist Amele spoke to ANF about the goal of their march.

Shengal Diaspora Assembly President Fikret İğrek: Our march kicked off from Dusseldorf on March 20. We will hold a rally in front of the Council of Europe in Brussels on March 27 and submit them a file we have prepared on our demands for Shengal and Êzidî people.

Today's attack on Shengal is a follow-up of the massacre perpetrated in Shengal on August 3, 2014. ISIS is actually an actor and the fascist AKP government is behind this plan in collaboration with the KDP government. The genocide plan initiated on August 3, 2014 continued with another attack on Shengal on March 2, 2017. This was followed by violent clashes on March 3 when 7 fighters defending Shengal were martyred. Dozens from the so-called 'Rojava Peshmerga' were also killed. These gangs bear the name of 'Rojava Peshmerga' but those attacking Shengal are actually ISIS gangs and the Turkish intelligence MIT. The weapons given to Barzani government by the German state to counter ISIS have been used against the people of Shengal.

Germany is a member of the European Union where the issue of Shengal's autonomy was discussed, as well as a negotiation with Turkmens and Syriacs which took place on October 19, 2016. The European Union made a decision on October 26, 2016, according to which a folk that has been through a genocide has the right to have its faith and autonomy recognized. Apart from that, according to the 116th and 120th articles of the Iraqi law, a folk that has been through a genocide has the right to declare autonomy in the geography comprised in the 140th article of the Iraqi law.

The European Union, the US, United Nations and Germany are supposed to make an explanation on their weapons being used against our people in these attacks. It is important that a delegation go to the scene and investigate the use of these weapons. They should recognize the autonomy of Shengal. We demand that YBŞ-YJŞ be recognized as the defense forces of Êzidî people and the Nineweh geography have a defense force in consideration of the genocidal attacks our people are facing with. Our people are living under a threat at the moment as the genocidal attacks are ongoing.

The ISIS gangs that attack our people in uniforms of peshmergas, and the gangs created by Turkish intelligence, Erdoğan and Barzani must be retreated from Shengal territory and the status of Shengal must be recognized officially."

Êzidî artist Amele: The main goal of our march from Dusseldorf to Brussels is to denounce the continued massacres suffered by the Êzidî society for centuries, and to demand an official status for Shengal.

We are witnessing through our families and relatives in Shengal what the Êzidî people there are experiencing today. Despite all the pressures, our fighters are defending Shengal and our mothers are resisting. Our people are being martyred in this resistance, which makes us feel a great pain.

We condemn the attacks carried out by KDP forces with the support of the AKP. During the course of our march, Kurds and their friends including Alevis and Islamic movement members have always supported us and not left us alone. We have seen once again that we are a big community and we are affected by this support. As the people of Kurdistan, we are in a great solidarity. With this demonstration, we have seen again that Êzidîs are not alone."
