'We are meeting with our people to build a democratic society'

Regarding the campaign 'We are meeting with our people to build a democratic society', Sema Koç said, “We will knock on everyone's door without discriminating any ideology and explain this process. This work is very important for peace building."

Efforts are underway to ensure that the “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” made by Abdullah Öcalan on February 27 reaches a wider audience. With the campaign “We are meeting with our people to build a democratic society”, DEM Party aims to bring the process to the people by going house to house.

Within the scope of the campaign, which will be carried out in line with Öcalan’s call “Go to the people!”, it is aimed to meet face-to-face with 1 million 145 thousand people in Amed (tr: Diyarbakır) alone.

Commissions have been formed in the districts to carry out the campaign. Speaking to ANF about the planned activities, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) Assembly member Sema Koç said, “This call guided us. In this context, we will work in the field to build social peace and a democratic society.”

'We started this work to reach more people'

Sema Koç stated that the public embraced Öcalan’s call massively on March 8 and Newroz, March 21, saying, “Our party organized public meetings in many places. Our aim is to explain the call to the people. These discussions and evaluations were held with approximately 50 thousand people. We especially want to be able to talk about this call with everyone. We started this work to reach more people after the public meetings.”

'We will knock on everyone's door'

Koç continued, “We will knock on everyone's door and explain this process without discriminating any ideology. We will take people’s opinions, suggestions and criticism about the process. We want to talk about this process openly with everyone. This work is of great importance for peace building.”

‘Peace is an inevitable necessity in this land’

Sema Koç pointed out that peoples' expressed their longing for peace in every field and said that a new Turkey and Kurdistan to be built with the call for peace would be a win-win for everyone. Stating that their work will continue indefinitely, Koç finally stated the following:

“We have always emphasized that peace is an inevitable necessity in this land and Mr. Öcalan's call is guiding us in this respect. We are conducting this process to build peace. For 50 years, we have lived in an environment of war and we have paid a high price. Therefore, it is much more important and necessary to talk about peace. It is very valuable to share this with everyone and socialize it.

The people of Kurdistan have been demanding peace for a long time. The public opinion on this issue has not changed since the call. We need to discuss all these details face to face. It will be both more effective and more productive to talk to people one-on-one. The main subject of this process is the people, and we will listen to the people who demand peace. We will fight to end the ravages of this war and realize the demands of the people.”
