Where is Hurşit Külter for 43 days?

Whereabouts of Democratic Regions' Party (DBP) Şırnak administrator Hurşit Külter remains unknown since his detention by state forces 42 days ago.

It has been 43 days since the last communication with DBP Şırnak provincial administrator Hurşit Külter, who refused to abandon his house and city despite the state forces' genocidal attacks on Şırnak. Witnesses have claimed that Külter was taken under custody by special operations forces on May 27, and special operations officers confirmed these claims on social media, but state officials have failed to make a statement on this issue.

Human Rights Association (İHD) lawyers and the Külter family have applied to Şırnak Provincial Police Headquarters, Public Prosecution Office, 23rd Gendarme Border Division Command, and Governorate but have not received any information on Külter’s disappearance from state officials. On May 29, Şırnak Governorate lied and stated that police and soldiers have not detained Külter.

As the aftermath of Külter remains unknown, people continue asking insistently where he is and what has been done to him. The questions on Külter's disappearance are asked on social media with the tag " #HurşitKülterNerede " [Where is Hurşit Külter?].

Families of victims of unidentified murders also join the social media campaign for Külter.

Emel Korkmaz, mother of Ali İsmail Korkmaz who was murdered in Eskişehir during Gezi protests, said the followings on her Twitter account; "I am the mother of Ali İsmail Korkmaz whom policemen beat to death in Gezi protests. In order not to see some other mothers crying, I ask: Where is Hurşit Külter?"

Mehmet Tursun, father of Baran Tursun who was also killed by police in İzmir, said; "The criminal and murderer state, Where is Hurşit Külter?"

HDP Urfa MP Osman Baydemir also wrote, "Day will come when war criminals will be tried".
