Swedish Liberal Party European parliamentarian Cecilia Wikström criticized the threats of the Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan and AKP ministers against the European Union, and stated that the EU should cancel the refugee deal it has made with Turkey.
Wikström spoke during an interview broadcasted at the Swedish State Radio and said “What is currently happening in Turkey is bizarre. We have witnessed an unprecedentedly aggressive polemic launched by Erdoğan against the European Union. Wikström had also objected the deal the EU had made with Turkey in order to stop the flow of refugees into Europe.
Wikström demanded the cancellation of the deal made with Turkey, and said “Yes, it is clear that many immigrants are trying to arrive at Greek islands. However, nobody can come now because the Aegean Sea has been closed down. This does not mean the end or the disappearance of the the suffering that these people experience. They are trying to bury their heads in the sand and say that they will not suffer if they do not see.”
