Women protest against isolation imposed on Öcalan

Protests and actions to highlight the conditions of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan are taking place everywhere in both Turkey and Europe.

On Thursday women activists from the Mothers for Peace initiative occupied the ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) buildings in Urfa and Viranþehir to protest against the isolation Öcalan is subjected to.

The activists in Urfa have been forced to leave the building. But they continued their protest in front of the building.

In Viranþehir the activists had a three-and-a-half-hour meeting with the AKP District Chair Celalettin Sayan in the AKP building surrounded by the police. In the press conference after the meeting Fatma Þelen said, “We are here to demand the continuation of the negotiations with Abdullah Öcalan who is considered a leader by 3.5 million people. We would also like the peace to be established and the military and political operations to be ended.”

AKP Viranþehir Chair Sayan said they took into account the women’s demands and they would convey them to the authorities.
